Artist Statement
I find it important that we analyze what surrounds us to better take part in shaping our lives. Whether dealing with tangible things, or intangible ideas, interaction with our environment be it physical or social will influence whom we may become. Imagination is my instrument for deciphering the world around me, and my artwork is a device that I use to touch and enhance environments.
While versed in a variety of art production methods, my preferred media are drawings, digital coloring, and water-based paintings. I enjoy observing forms and breaking them down to their base shapes and lines, then rebuilding them through sketch with a heightened aesthetic essence. My work, however, has evolved from trying to skillfully reproduce what I see to communicating my experience concerning the things I am seeing. I seek to create a mood that affords an audience the chance to pause and behold the power of a moment, an action, or a grand vision.
Creating images solely from my mind is also a joy for me. My imaginings are theatrical and quite vividly displayed within my head. While drawing freely I aim to capture and share such imagery. I am a storyteller, and being an artist affords me the opportunity to express my stories visually. I view the arts as an essential endeavor, for they serve to make the honestly valuable things in our world desirable, recognizable, and accessible.
