Statement
As an artist, I enjoy looking at natural figures and manmade structures and trying to figure out how they are designed to work. I can break objects down to their basics and using fundamentals elements such as line, shape, and form, I can build them up again, or create objects solely from my imagination. My ideas are vividly projected within my head and I aim to showcase this mental imagery through my creative work. I am a storyteller, and the visual arts provide me with a great format for my stories.
In addition to my desire to understand the environment and materials around me, I enjoy the challenge of composing symbols and objects into illustrations that communicate my ideas. I find that a single
image, or a collaborative series of images, may present a point of view capable of breaking through barriers spoken and/or written words often face. In this way, being a visual artist affords me the opportunity to express my world directly.
As an educator in the visual arts, I have become versed in a variety of media and techniques. I have come to appreciate computer-aided design, and three-dimensional design. However, my preferred media are drawing and painting (traditional and digital). The purpose of my art has evolved over time from trying to replicate what I see with skill and accuracy, to communicating what I am thinking about the things I see and experience.
